1. Purpose of the AUP

The AUP exists to:

  • Protect SongBase’s intellectual property, systems, and users.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing, group, and institutional boundaries.
  • Maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Prevent abuse, misuse, and unauthorized redistribution.

2. General Expectations

Users must:

  • Use the Services lawfully and responsibly.
  • Respect intellectual property rights (SB Catalog and user-created content).
  • Use only the features and content permitted by their account type.
  • Refrain from bypassing or interfering with platform security and licensing.
  • Respect privacy and confidentiality within groups and institutions.

3. Prohibited Content and Behavior

Users may NOT upload, generate, or distribute:

  • Illegal, harmful, or fraudulent content.
  • Malware, viruses, or malicious scripts.
  • Harassing, abusive, hateful, or discriminatory content.
  • Content that violates intellectual property or privacy rights.
  • Content intended to disrupt classes, rehearsals, or institutional workflows.

4. Intellectual Property Restrictions

4.1 SB Catalog Content

Users may NOT:

  • Redistribute SB Catalog content outside allowed print copies.
  • Share SB content publicly or provide access to unauthorized users.
  • Upload SB content to public websites, LMS pages without authentication, social media, or shared drives.
  • Extract, copy, or export SB IPA Database entries.
  • Export SB translations, IPA, audio demos, or metadata in machine-readable formats.
  • Use SB content to create competing products or derivatives.

4.2 User-Created Content

Users may NOT:

  • Share custom or forked works outside their authorized group or institution.
  • Export or redistribute institutional or group materials without permission.
  • Remove attribution or misrepresent authorship of content created with SB tools.

5. Data Extraction, Scraping & Reverse Engineering

Users may NOT:

  • Scrape, harvest, or extract data from SongBase.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to access underlying code or data structures.
  • Attempt to access forced alignment metadata, internal APIs, or system internals.
  • Use bots, crawlers, automation, or scripts to interact with the platform.
  • Circumvent authentication, SSO, or access restrictions.

6. AI & Automated Tool Restrictions

  • Users may NOT use SongBase outputs (IPA, translations, TTS audio, metadata) to train external AI or ML models.
  • Users may NOT submit SB-generated outputs to external datasets.
  • Users may NOT build tools or products that replicate SongBase functionality using SB content.
  • SongBase does not guarantee the accuracy of AI translations or TTS outputs; users must exercise discretion.

7. Role-Based Restrictions

7.1 Institutional Students

Institutional students may:

  • Access SB Catalog content under the institution’s subscription.
  • Complete IPA exercises and view their own progress.
  • Create custom works.
  • View teacher notes on accessible works.

Students may NOT:

  • Create or export custom IPA databases.
  • Access teacher dashboards, teacher-wide notes, or other students’ data.
  • Share content outside the institution.
  • Access administrative views or system-level analytics.

7.2 Institutional Teachers

Teachers may NOT:

  • Share exercise lists, notes, or internal materials outside the institution.
  • Export SB Catalog content beyond permitted PDF/print methods.
  • Use SB tools to develop proprietary or commercial products.
  • Grant access to individuals outside the institution.
  • Publish content derived from SB without written permission.

Teachers must respect student privacy and institutional policies.

7.3 Institutional Admins

Administrators may NOT:

  • Access individual student submissions or progress.
  • Edit, modify, or delete teacher-created materials.
  • Change user roles through SongBase.
  • Access or export content outside authorized reporting dashboards.

Admins’ access is strictly limited to aggregate, high-level usage metrics.

7.4 Group Owners & Managers

Group owners/managers may NOT:

  • Share content outside their seat holders.
  • Misrepresent usage tracking or attempt to disable required tracking tools.
  • Provide seat access to individuals without notifying them of usage visibility.
  • Export SB Catalog content beyond allowed formats.

8. Usage Tracking and Monitoring

Users may NOT:

  • Interfere with or disable usage tracking.
  • Attempt to hide or falsify activity logs.
  • Access usage metrics for groups or institutions to which they do not belong.
  • Modify, delete, or tamper with institutional or group data.

9. Notes, Exercises, and Student Work

Users may NOT:

  • Share student exercise submissions publicly or with unauthorized individuals.
  • Copy internal notes to external platforms without explicit permission.
  • Access teacher notes or comments outside their authorized scope.
  • Duplicate or distribute internal instructional materials without permission.

10. Security Requirements

Users must:

  • Use their own account credentials.
  • Keep passwords secure and not share them.
  • Not create multiple accounts to bypass restrictions.
  • Report suspected breaches or misuse immediately.

Users may NOT attempt to:

  • Gain unauthorized access to other users’ content.
  • Manipulate account roles or permissions.
  • Exploit vulnerabilities in the platform.

11. LMS, Embedding, and Classroom Use

Users may NOT:

  • Embed SB content in public-facing LMS pages or websites.
  • Use embedding or linking to bypass subscription or SSO access.
  • Provide public or unrestricted links to SB content or exercises.

All embedded content must remain behind authentication walls.

12. External Publishing & Distribution

Users may NOT publish:

  • SB Catalog content.
  • Custom works derived from SB Catalog content.
  • Translations, IPA, or audio demos generated by SB tools.
  • Notes or instructional content created within groups/institutions.

Academic Publishing Exception

Publication in academic journals or non-commercial research contexts requires prior written permission from SongBase. Commercial publication is prohibited without explicit authorization.

13. Misrepresentation & Impersonation

Users may NOT:

  • Impersonate other users or misrepresent their affiliations.
  • Use SongBase branding or trademarks without permission.
  • Claim SongBase-generated content as original scholarship unless permitted.

14. Enforcement and Consequences

SongBase may take the following actions for violations:

  • Warning.
  • Removal of content.
  • Temporary suspension.
  • Permanent termination.
  • Loss of access to certain features.
  • Reporting violations to institutions (for institutional users).
  • Legal action when necessary.

SongBase may determine, at its discretion, the appropriate consequence based on the severity of the violation.

15. Reporting Violations

Users may report violations by contacting SongBase at [email protected].

16. Changes to This AUP

We may update this AUP periodically.

Material changes will be communicated via email or platform notice.

Continued use of the Services constitutes acceptance of the updated AUP.
